Exploiting tube high-pressure shearing to prepare a microstructure in Pb-Sn alloys for unprecedented superplasticity

نویسندگان

چکیده

Superplastic Pb-Sn alloys were produced via tube high-pressure shearing ( t -HPS), in a single step starting from elemental solid bulks. A Pb-40 wt% Sn alloy showed an exceptional superplastic elongation as high ∼1870% at strain rate of 1.0 × 10 −3 s −1 room temperature, thereby elevating the optimum for maximum under these conditions by more than one order magnitude over conventional cast alloys. This unprecedented temperature superplasticity is attributed to equiaxed grains having uniform sizes micrometer, and particular well-mixed domains Pb nearly equal proportions. microstructure cannot be attained eutectic or hypoeutectic through thermomechanical processing , but instead it direct outcome -HPS-generated compositional patterning temperature.

Measuring intrinsic elastic modulus of Pb/Sn solder alloys

Young’s modulus (E) values published in the literature for the eutectic Pb37/Sn63 and near eutectic Pb40/Sn60 solder alloy vary significantly. One reason for this discrepancy is different testing methods for highly rate sensitive heterogeneous materials, like Pb/Sn alloys, yield different results. In this paper, we study different procedures used to obtain the elastic modulus; analytically, by ...

The Kinetics of Formation of Ternary Intermetallic Alloys in Pb-Sn and Cu-Ag-Sn Pb-free Electronic Joints

A simple model of the formation of Au0.1Ni0.1Sn0.8 in Pb-Sn solder/Ni interconnects is examined by numerical simulation. Previous experimental observation has shown that after reflow the interface consists of the Ni3Sn4 alloy between Pb-Sn solder and Ni, with Au distributed through the PbSn solder ball. Au0.1Ni0.1Sn0.8 was observed to form at the Pb-Sn solder/Ni3Sn4 interface during annealing a...

Self-annealing in a two-phase Pb-Sn alloy after processing by high-pressure torsion

A Pb-62% Sn two-phase eutectic alloy was processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) and stored at room temperature (RT) to investigate the occurrence of self-annealing. The microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties were recorded during self-annealing using scanning electron microscopy, tensile testing and nanoindentation. Processing by HPT produces a weakening effect but storage a...

X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Study of Passive Layers Formed on Pb-Sn and Pb-Sb Alloys

In this article, passivated Pb-Sn and Pb-Sb alloys with different compositions were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The passive films were found to have a double-layer structure. Both Sn and Sb were found to play an important role during the growth of passive film, which resulted in different compositions of passive filJ;l1s. The Pb oxides, Pb sulfate, SnlSb oxides, and Pb-Sn...

Nanostructured high-strength molybdenum alloys with unprecedented tensile ductility.

The high-temperature stability and mechanical properties of refractory molybdenum alloys are highly desirable for a wide range of critical applications. However, a long-standing problem for these alloys is that they suffer from low ductility and limited formability. Here we report a nanostructuring strategy that achieves Mo alloys with yield strength over 800 MPa and tensile elongation as large...
